Mullingar Athletic AFC Ladies 1
Willow Park Ladies 3

Once again the Mullingar Ath Women went into action short of 8 regular senior players.

However under the circumstances the Mullingar women can feel very proud of their performance today and more than a little aggrieved.

The first half was a very even affair with Athletic defending against the wind.

The breakthrough for Willow came from a direct ball over the top and the chase was on. The Willow forward got the benefit of a stumble and a bit of good fortune and managed to pass the ball into the goal.

Within minutes it was 1-1. Bridgie Heslin showed wonderful composure to easily beat the willow keeper into the bottom corner.

HT 1-1

The 2nd half was similar to the 1st half with Athletic now enjoying the wind at their back were able to apply more pressure on the willow defence.

Athletic began to get some joy in the last 3rd of the pitch until Lauren Power was forced off the pitch after sustaining a couple of late heavy tackles.

The game was finely poised when Willow won a corner.

The corner itself was easily defended by Athletic however the clearance landed at the feet of the Willow centre back who hit a hopeful lob into the box that was misjudged by the Ath keeper and the ball somehow bounced through her feet and into the goal.

Jackie Glennon was then yellow carded for what was deemed a heavy challenge.

In the last ten mins Willow broke through and with Jackie chasing back the two players came together just outside the box.

The natcg official gave a second yellow card and Athletic were reduced to 10.

At this point the game was effectively over and in the dying minutes Willow crafted a good goal to finish the game 1-3.

Mullingar Athletic will take a lot from this game. Short of several regulars, a new goal keeper making her debut and once again losing players to injury they can hold their heads high.

Todays squad: Sarah Keegan, Lilia O’Brien, Jackie Glennon, Naoise O’Donahue, Aoife Kenny, Fiona Keating, Aoife Glennon,
Carol Glennon, Leona Archibald, Bridge Heslin, Dayna Muldarry. Lauren Power Michelle Connelly
